I am an American lady with a Canadian fiance. We are planning on getting married. Can we be together in the US

Are we able to be together while the process is going on? Would it be easier to go to Canada or for him to come to the US?

Answer:
There's a couple different ways you can go about this.
You can file the I129f before you plan the wedding out and wait for it to be approved. That would let him move over, then after the wedding you can file the rest of the paperwork. But, I'm not particularly familiar with that route as my husband and I waited till we got married and I lived in Canada for awhile. You do have to live in the US to file some of the later paperwork.
Some other things you'll want to look at are form I-865 on the uscis.gov webpage. That's the affidavit of support that you have to sign as the sponsor, so make sure that you meet those requirements. You'll also have to keep working, so unless he lives near the border, you'll probably need to stay in the US as you need to have proof of your income. The process does not always take a terribly long time. Ours took a couple years, but I've heard of some that only took about 5 months. Make sure you have plenty of pictures and correspondence from while you're dating! One of the wonderfully fun (not!) things you'll have to go through is an interview that may be conducted together OR separate where you can be grilled about every aspect of your life together to make sure your answers match.
Belinda, you do know that Bill Clinton is still married , right?
