Answer:
Australians are starting to be more like the Canadians.. we have a points list and you get in depending on what how many points you can get.. there's a list of skills that we're short of and if you fall into those categories you may be given preference. No offence or anything but your being from the UK doesn't help that much. Your qualifications will hold strong though.
It's not easy to become an Australian citizen. My niece married an "Aussie" and she is going through hoops to become a citizen there. I wish you luck as it appears to be the place to go now-a-days.
Helps if you are a qualified tradesman, or have a university degree. If you can bare it, and there is a question about it, say you ARE prepared to live/work in a remote area. I think it's only for 2 years, but it could be longer. Many migrants from the UK return home as it's not as good as they expected, it's too different to home or they just don't like it. It is different here. Even though you speak the language, you can still feel isolated. Most of my UK friends are very happy they came, but they do sort of stick together socially. They all play soccer together, helps if you play soccer, makes for an easier transition into the community. They all say that they would not have as nice a house/car/life if they'd stayed in England. Most have married Australian girls, not English girls.
