Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house) .
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!
I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn MY LANGUAGE! so you can communicate with me.

40% of Latino voters in Arizona voted for Proposition 200 which denied benefits to illegal immigrants and required proof of citizenship to vote. Some have illegal family, of course, which is different.
We have Americans who happen to be Latino who are as American as anyone. They aren't on trial.
I am a Latina who does support these workers.I don't support the criminal element, I do support those who want to work and make this country better.In case you didn't know, we need these workers because we are getting killed in the global economy.
They do show it. They just don't receive any media attention. But they are there. Heres proof.

It really is funny. I have a cousin who is half hispanic..but totally crackerized, I'm not even sure she knows more than 5 spanish words. But I asked her about it..and even she, a half white suburbanite didnt want to answer the question. She said it made her feel uneasy
My wife works in East LA and most if not all of her co-workers that are of Latino descent think the illegal immigrants do the legal immigrants a disservce, especially the Latinos. They are vehemently against illegal immigration.
There definitely a diversity of opinion in the Latino community, and I don't think we non-latinos give it enough credit. The mob mentality is such that if you do not have your opinion made known, it is assumed you agree with the loudest people. Its difficult for Americans of Latino heritage to truly speak out as its a very touchy subject that goes to the very core of their allegiances..ethnic pride or national allegiance? Its easiest to be quiet and let others decide.

Toadboy, you don't know what you're talking about. I am mexican-american and I'm not afraid to say that I am against illegal immigration. I am marching this weekend with my kids. Do not generalize with ignorant remarks such as, "It reminds me of the muslims who refuse to say anything bad about the radical element of their religion...".
