The time it takes varies. Some things which can add time to the process e.g. any name hits, background or security issues; if your paperwork, documentation or evidence is complete i.e. nothing missing whereby an RFE (request for further evidence) has to be issued; and ultimately how many petitions the particular service center is dealing with at the time.
Which service center will be adjudicating the petition? Vermont Service Center has a very good track record for being faster. If you are looking for an immigration forum for information, support etc. have a look at http://www.familybasedimmigration.com/fo... They are only fairly new on the scene but seem to have a great knowledge base.
It just depends on how many people there are in line in front of you.
