Is it true that Americans are against immigration?
So does that mean Americans don't want immigrants (again ... legal immigration)? I'm 16 and I live in Canada right now, but I eventually want to move to the U.S. because I like it there and I have a lot of relatives there, but now I get the impression that I wouldn't be very welcome to immigrate to the U.S.
Answer:
No America and Americans are not opposed to legal immigration. So you don't need to worry about that as you will be fine when you do decide to come and live.
The question you saw earlier is how the pro-illegals and illegals always present their questions. Why because they don't want to admit that there is actually a difference between legal immigration and illegal entry. Expect to see a lot of those questions presented the same way.
Americas fight is with Mexico because millions of them (Mexican illegals)sneak across the border, and then expect to stay indefinitely without punishment or consequences. The thumbs up are those who agree with others comments. While the thumbs down are from our great haters who disagree with Americans who oppose demands that should not be given to illegals and do not have for being here illegally. You'll begin to learn the difference after a time of who agrees with which side of the issue.
I suppose if Americans wouldn't want anymore legal immigrating it would be only from Mexico. Only because so many illegals sneak in from there regardless of immigration laws on American books. Other countries legal immigrants do not put such a strain on the American system as much as illegals do.
You will be fine when you immigrate legally.
No. Americans are not against LEGAL immigration.
It is ILLEGAL immigration which is unwanted.
I have no problem with immigration IF it is done legaly
I think I answered that question. We are not against immigration that is how my families got here but we definitely want laws enforced and illegal immigration severely punished.
Thats f up that you feel that way because some morons on here don't have nothing better to do than to talk a lot of bs. i am an american and your more than welcome to come into my country
No, don't believe what a few are saying here. The U.S always has and always will welcome legal immigrants. You are welcome.
The issue regarding legal immigration is a valid one to explore.
You first need to understand that the United States is a finite land mass with so many places that can sustain a real quality of life.
Not every square inch of land can be developed. Not every city is going to look like New York or Chicago. Not every farm is going to be plowed under for new tract housing.
We cannot take that many new citizens any more. Seriously.
Try Australia if you want a great opportunity for growth and room to overpopulate.
There are a few radicals on here that say close the borders completely, but those are few and far between. Most people will welcome you.
Edit: Max here is making me look bad. I was trying to welcome him and you say try Australia?
Makes you wonder..Many here support Tancerdo, and he is flat out against any immigration.
I am completely open to legal immigration, however the answer is very cloudy. I feel that America today isn't completely united. I feel it is because very few people take part in ALL the issues, but rather just seem to speak out when an issue comes along that they don't like. So you will find that America will seem to be opposed to pretty much EVERYTHING. When 1 American becomes opposed to something, that is all you will hear about because that is what makes news (even if 100 are not opposed). Don't worry about your future, it is probably a whole light brighter as an immigrant American than as a LOT of natural-born americans. They take a lot for granted that people like you appreciate.
I think maybe there has been, to some extent, a back last against all immigrants because of the millions we have here illegally and with a Congress that doesn't seem concerned about the problem. Personally, I welcome all legal immigrants who come to this country to make a positive contribution and I have to believe that most Americans feel as I do on the matter.
No problem with legal immigration, it's just that lately when you say immigration our minds automatically jump to the illegals.
I think that American's are tired of the fact that there are certain incentives for immigrants that come to the U.S. that American citizens born in the country aren't on the receiving end of. Open a business and don't pay income tax for 7 years. SSI even when you have not put anything into the system to be technically eligible to receive it. Food stamps and other benefits. Yeah, I don't think American's much care legal or not. It's time for a break. If you come here you should be able to support yourself. I understand some refuges that can't who need temp help but we help them more than we help our own, like the victims of Hurricane Katrina. What a sad statement that makes! We've had laws on the books for years that they chose not to enforce and now they want to pass new ones. I guess it justifies their paycheck. I'm not against people coming to this country but I am tired of us funding it. BUT...if you are in this country you'd better respect it and our flag!!!
Truth? No.
But the left wants the world to think that the right is so that they can say that they are racists. In reality the left are the racists for giving illegal Mexicans preferential treatment over Non-Mexican immigrants that are trying to get here legally.
MS JETER: HOW IS CLOSING THE BORDERS COMPLETELY CONSIDERED AGAINST IMMIGRATION? WHEN PEOPLE SAY CLOSE THE BORDERS COMPLETELY, THAT MEANS DON'T LET ANYONE CROSS ILLEGALLY.
of course you are more then welcome to come over, your most likely light skin and your above the US there-for its OK if you come. its only my skin color people and darker that it is NOT OK.
So don't feel unwanted true fact.lol
NO, we have a huge illegal problem, so that is what pops into the American mind when the word "immigration" is uttered!
There other immigration concerns that people have problems with, like this one: If a person migrates from a third world nation, say Taiwan, the US govt gives them opportunities that most average American can't get!
I think America can and will still benefit by taking in other peoples. Judging by how the current gov't is acting, refusing to take Iraqi refugees, though, it seems that there is VERY little serious intent to expand emigration. Sure, 200 years ago, it was a wide-open land(if you ignore Indian tribal claims). There's STILL plenty of wide-open land, heck, Wyoming has only 400,000 people in the entire state?! But yes, maybe we don't need to take on so many any more. We can't be the Nanny-country to all the world's ill-treated people anymore. While we should have some means to let in other people, including Mexicans looking for work, most don't love America with a capital L, it's just money they're looking for. Are they REALLY the kind of people we want to make citizens, if they care so little for our culture and way of life? You, personally, if you wish to become American, and stay here, and spend your money here, are welcome. Those who wish to work and send the money out of the country, should be issued work visa's only, and no permanent citizenship. Work as long as you are willing, then get out.
Australia has some severe restrictions on emigration, you MUST have a job lined up thru a company, at least they did in the 1970's, not sure now, but they refused to take poor, uneducated people in. Only highly trained professionals they needed. If that's changed, it's news to me.

In my humble opinion I believe that immigration was important for a growing nation. Today however it is more important to uphold what the government should be doing in keeping the infastructure in good shape, protecting Americans and making our educational system the best in the world. Of course we all know it is just the opposite. Now why do you think with a fully developed nation immigration should be in the staggering numbers that it is? Try to get in to other nations and see what happens. Good Luck!
Joseph:
I know you have idiots in Canada. You know what they are and how they act. Well sir, we have them here as well. And we may even have more than our fair share.
I can't speak for every American but many of us know the difference between "Legal and Illegal" immigration.
If you want to do it legally I know where you can live, right next door to me... One of my neighbors is an immigrant and naturalized citizen. The other has three generations of welfare recipients in the same house. I'm sure you can guess which one I like for you to replace.
Good luck on your intentions. Keep this and read the last word when you step over the border.

""Is it true that Americans no longer want any new immigrants? I""
I think that some immigration is good. The amount of people trying to immigrate to the USA is far far more than the economy or the system can handle though. The USA simply has too many people trying to come to the USA, and there are not enough resources for it.
Some people do not understand this. But it isnt an opinion its a fact.
So some immigration yes... too much immigration no.
Americans love immigrants!
We ooh and ahh over their accents, their knowledge of far-away places, their ability to speak something other than flat, boring American English.
The reason is that most Americans don't travel outside the country very much, so making friends with immigrants is an easy way to learn the outside world.
Where most Americans get off the bus (me included) is with our corporations creating sub-minimum wage jobs in stinking work conditions and inviting lots of illegal immigrants here to do those jobs on the guise that 'Americans are too lazy' to work or 'too picky' to accept substandard environments.
If you come legally there is no problem. There is a bill in Congress that would vastly increase legal immigration beyond the million or so green cards we give per year now, while illegal immigration has already been driving down wages and overcrowding schools, so it is just making a lot of people mad.
Under decent immigration limits, we welcome immigrants.
Let's look at illegal immigration in a different way. A man breaks into your house. Live in your basement. Doesn't speak ENGLISH. Your son starts paying him to do his choirs. the man sends half his money to his family. One by one or in groups, start showing up in your basement. One of them get sick and whiny little girl says "you need to take of him. He lives in your house."
All this and you can't call the cops because you dont want to be called racist.
Look up " Immigartion Gumballs " and see the truth about immigartion .
Well since all Americans, except for our Native Americans, are products of immigtrant parents, how can any true American be against legal immigration?
.
But most people arent like that, so you shouldn't worry. But why not visit your friends and relatives and check it out 4 yourself?
Heck no we are a nation of immigrants. We are also a nation of laws. If you want to come here legally and become an American. Be welcome. Personal heritage is going back only four generations is Comanche, Creek/Cherokee, Choctaw, German, Polish,, English, Welsh, Russian, French, Scottish, Irish, Jew, Berber, Creole, Armenian, and Portuguese. All that is blended into a pure blooded American Mongrel. I am proud of my heritage but I do not require others to learn the languages of the lands my ancestors came from. I do require newcomers to assimilate or abdicate. Obey our laws or do not come.
Don't judge all Americans by what you read here. We are not against immigration we will still welcome those who come in the legal way to seek a better life. It's those that come in illegally that we are against.
Most people I know are not against legal immigration because it is controlled by quotas. A majority (but not all) of Americans are against this "legalizing" of the majority of Hispanics who are already here only because of the way they came here...undocumented and illegal when other people of different countries have been patiently and legally waiting their turn by going through the whole immigration process correctly.
Really what we are saying is, "Why give someone legal status when they have broken our laws?" Sometimes it appears to look like a race or culture thing (which it is not) only because the majority of illegals have come from Mexico.
You would be very much welcome here if you did the paperwork and went through the correct process. I know quite a few smart, intelligent people who are originally from Canada.
Well the way i see it you are white that means we welcome you with open arms. You belong here because you are of the same culture.
Any person should have the ability to legally immigrate here, providing they prove they have skills, will be productive, and not a burden,,and give back to the system that let them come here legally,,,,,its all the other illegal trash, we need to clean up,,,,,but I am all for welcoming new people, under these conditions,,and they are not that strict,,,,,,,
