NO, It's greed more than anything else. THat an industrialization. We have gotten good in using Technology to grow more food per acre. Well we need money to get the technology. Athe Farmers got expensive loans to buy up tractors and stuff, and produce alot more food. THe problem was that the more food there was, the cheaper the food got, and so their profit dropped. Because the profit dropped, they no longer can afford paying off the loan, and the farmers went bankrupt. Actually, America is bankrupting farms everywhere else. It's partly done by subsidies.
I am not sure about the farmers I live in the south, but I live in the mountains so there isn't that many farms, I do remember that a lot of the farms in the midwest had problems but I can't say for sure what was the cause of all the farms going under. But from living in the south I can tell you that the textile industries have really suffered. almost all of the furniture factories have moved to Mexico and so have the cotton mills. so it has effected the ecomony as a whole in the south.
corporations killed american farmers. corporations would buy farms and take losses as tax write offs and collect on government farming subsidies. since private farmers didn't have corporate status they couldn't compete. the same corporations learned they could make even more money by hiring migrant workers at under minimum wage. there is a reason your food has the name "dole", "dow" (as in dow petro/chemical), and the often not named monsanto.
The USA produces more foods than it needs, so how has the agricultural industry been killed? I do not understand this question.
We live in a capitalist society. Meaning the most competitive win. If the Mexicans can sell food cheaper what is the problem? That means we pay less for food so isnt that best for us consumers. If what you say is true, and I dont think so, (if it was all the mexicans would stay in Mexico making good money instead of coming here.)
Interestingly, we are all for capitalisim until someone else beats us at our own game.
