Should there be a draft in America?
Answer:
Yes. It would have raised a huge public outcry at this ridiculous Iraqi War. It would also have taken the burden off of the National Guard. (You may have noticed that on top of their forced commitment to the war, the bankruptcy law was changed. It's very difficult to claim it now.) Bill Richardson has asked people to sign his petition, asking Congress to de-authorize the war. It's on his website. I plan to sign it.
Sounds good. Do it after the elections.
the draft is a violation of the bill of rights and has been seen as immoral. the draftees are usually unwilling and are trained less than the average militant person
but it has been done before so why not?
Draft is not necessary, there are plenty who are volunteering daily. We have a lot bigger military force than some might think.
Canada and Mexico would have alot of illegals...
Absolutly not! Bring them all home NOW! We never should have went there in the first place. Just what election did we vote in to make us start this march to empire complete with torture? All this crap is killing thousands of our fine young people for no legal reason! It is far past time to bring it to an end before we stat bombing Iran!
yes. and when has our govt went with the laws of this country?
Every young man who turns 18 must register with Selective Service at thier local post office. If the President thinks it's warranted, he would initiate the draft from Selective service. The first to be called would be single men from 18-25 years old. As far as the Army lacking, I would tend to disagree in that while our forces are spread thin across the globe, technology has evolved so that not as large a force is needed to maintain our weapon systems.
Why do we need a large force? I don't care to go anywhere and fight for something someone tells me is right. In the end any modern war is (or will be) probably based on religion, fear, naivete, or greed --none of which I care to get involved in. Armed forces come in too early and should only be considered as a last resort. When the right time to fight for something comes, people will believe in what they are being asked to do and a draft will not be necessarry.
With technology advancing at the rapid rate that it is a draft is RETARDED... y need more people when u can press a button and launch an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM capabe of flying half way arround the world?? Or just shout the command and a neclear sumbmarine and launch enough nukes to literally destroy all life on an ENTIRE continent.("The U.S. Navy currently has 14 Ohio-class SSBNs deployed. Each submarine is equipped with a complement of 24 Trident II missiles, for a total of 336 missiles equipped with 2688 nuclear warheads.") :) anyways... with technology advancing, the common foot soldier(like WW2), is replaced with missles and warheads!
if we need to draft anyone, we need to draft all the nerds so they can build us big explosives and advanced weaponry,
No. We need to start a continuous troop withdrawal now and keep it up until all of our young people are home. We don't need to send any more of them into harm's way. We need to work at establishing peace in the middle east, and force is not the way to do it.
no way!
The draft has aided this country before, but I am not sure if it was successful. Sure it supplied the much needed troops, but there was not enough enforcement. Those who were rich and famous found there ways out of serving while those who deserved a better life were forced to fight. This caused many to abandon the army, leaving the country back in the position it was before. Now you choose to be in the army, therefore you know what you are getting yourself into. During the Civil War, the country was placing ill-trained men on the battle field. Most of the draftees would be eighteen years old. Would you want to graduate from high school and serve maybe your last days on earth in a war? Not only that, but throwing your life away by giving up college. Some people were able to still go to college, but what if you were the unlucky one?
