How can a mexican citizen get US citizenship?

a friend of mine, who's papers have expired, wants to renew her papers. Her children are naturalized citizens in the US, as they were born here. Can she get her papers based on that? Where can I find information that I can show her what she can do to legally obtain her papers without having to pay an arm and a leg?

Answer:
tell her to stay in Mexico with her people
Run across the border 40 million insurgents can't be wrong except they should be hunted down and sent back

check out the website below. There are tons of links on how to get a Visa. The good thing is, since she came originally on a visa she'll have an easier time becoming a citizen.even though it doesn't look good that she let her Visa expire, if she explains her situation it is very likely that they will allow her to stay, especially considering she has two kids that are naturalized. Your best bet is to fill out all the paperwork yourself because if you go through lawyers it will cost a few grand. You still might be looking at a 1000 dollars or so in total for filling out the paperwork but trust me, that's better than what it could be. Good luck!!!
She needs to file an I-485 to renew her GC. If she can meet the Residence Time requirement she can also file an N-400 to obtain US Citizenship.

The law states that the ban on reentry is 3 yrs if overstay is 6 months to 1yr & 10 yrs if overstay is 1yr or more. Waivers may be granted for family unity or hardship.

Regardless though, since she is now "Out of Status" she should contact an attorney for assistance and either renew her GC or naturalize. The I-485 lists "Your authorized stay expired before you filed this application;" as one of the reasons you may NOT file for a Green Card.

There is a long process involved into first seeing if she is eligiable. Then once approved she must start filing all the necessary paper work, expect to pay for all the forms. It is not as easy for a Mexican citizen as it is others to obtain US citizenship. Some have waited up to 20 years for their chance. Good luck to her and I wish her the best. I know first hand how hard the process is, and have seen many families be split up while they sit and wait to see if they are one of the chosen few. My friends husband is still waiting, it's been over 5 years now. While I see others getting their visas handed to them like hotcakes.
um no cluee
