Do immigrants in the UK that do not work deserve to claim benefits from those of us who do work?
Answer:
NO - simple as that ! ! !
NO
Do the UK residents that do not work deserve to claim benefits from those of us who do work?
We have a welfare state.
NONONONO
No .. it is ridiculous ... if we went to live in their countries would anyone support us? I think not!!
Heck no! People need to earn their way through life, and not rely on the handouts or hardworkings of other people!
I don't care what country you are talking about, I think a person should not be able to draw benefits untill they have CONTRIBUTED to the system.
They should'nt be there if they don't have a means to support themselves.
No they don't. But then, nor do the natives who also choose not to work!
I am on the fence with this one, on one hand I'd say NO because they are immigrants and not UK citizens.
but.. One the other hand the caring part of me wouldn't want them to starve or their families to suffer.
If they have an equal chance at employment and choose not to work, then no, but if they are routinely passed over for employment opportunities, then what else can they do?
No, Infact I feel no one other than the sick and old deserve claim benefits.
No, because it is really unfair to the people who work like 9 to 5 every day just for a little bit of money. The people who don't work shouldn't get money because it's nasty.
It really depends on a lot of things. If they are able to work and just don't bother to get a job then no they don't deserve it But there are a lot of British citizens who are like this too.
If they are unable to work because of a disability then yes I think they should claim benefits. I don't mind taxes as long as I know they are being used for good reasons.
:)
I don't think they should get anything really, why should the British people support the world?? Its just not fair, if they can't speak English or abide by British laws, send them back where they came from. Why should the rest of the population work in order to get a peace of bread but they can just come and claim whatever they want???
Well i think if the immigrants do not work they should not get benefit claims, however i think it would be fair for all the 'piggy backers' of our own Society to not recieve benefits unless it is true disability claims etc.
I dont mind immigrants coming over, we are a rich country and i think anyone who needs help should come over. However i would expect them to work. Unless they are disabled or whatever. And id expect them to know basic English.
No, but then again I know of lots of non-immigrants who do not work, have no imtention of, and really shouldn't be getting benefit, but up off thier lazy a***es and getting a job. It doesn't matter what colour, religion, homeland, sexuality etc - no work - no pay! I believe the system should be more like I have heard of in the US, you can only calim up to a certain amount of weeks money in your lifetime, is this correct? Good idea.
Nobody who isn't willing to get up and earn a living deserves to claim benefits from those of us who are. (If they are not able that's different).
NO, I think that not only in the UK but for the rest of Europe that every immigrant that doesn't work or that are a burden to the society, or misbehave and don't follow the rules should be deported to their countries so the immigrants that follow every rule and are productive and good people could live and work in better conditions without the labels or recrimination of those that think that every immigrant is the same. This is my opinion I know that many will disagree.
All the free loaders that drain the welfare state need sorting out. Surely people who claim benefits long term should have them reduced year by year if they make no effort to work.
I know of people, couples too, where neither of them work, the mothers who never returned to work when the kids are at school, etc, etc. I have 2 kids myself and I know it used to be hard finding out of school care, but there is so much available now and subsidised too there is really no excuse. And no, I have no family who looks after my kids for me! As for immigrants coming here just for free money, healthcare and housing, its just disgusting.
No! No! No! And NO!! Put them in national service and send them to Iraq to fight it out.. bring our boys home.. and leave um too it! Problem solved
What do you mean by 'deserve'? If you mean a right to something for doing something, then you are posing the wrong question. The benefits system in the UK is not aimed at the 'deserving'. It is meant to help those who are in need and may have fallen on hard times. So if someone who has never worked, e.g. a baby is born disabled, it will be able to claim benefits later on in life.
You should ask whether immigrants should get anything AT ALL from this country, including entry if you don't want them to claim anything when they arrive. Once they are here, they are entitled to claim. They may not DESERVE it, but they are entitled by our laws to it.
any one can come here and sponge not only off the people who pay their way but all so off the likes of my self who worked and paid taxes and national insurance.all our lives.it do sent how ever hurt the politicians.only us pensioners and future pensioners. 68 year old
no, and others that are fit to work should not get handouts, if so they should be put to work cleaning the streets and other like work
I think they should work but if it they cant find a job then they should be given money to survive. I do believe that if they are just being lazy and dont want to work, they shouldnt get a penny.
no they dont same as all the lazy chavs who turn up once a week with their hand out dont deserve benefits either
No
Well, does ANYONE deserve to claim benefits - unless they are genuinely unable to work? I think the answer is no, and we'd become a healthier society if that was better enforced.
Immigrants can generally only claim benefits after they have been here long enough to get settled status. It has been established that immigrants on average pay more into the system than they take out. Of course there are some immigrants that take the p!ss - but then there are plenty of natives working the system too.
I agree with some respondents here that anyone who is able to work should get up and support themselves, whether they are local residents or newly arrived immigrants.
By the way, most immigrants before they become citizens are NOT able to claim benefits under British law. Only asylum seekers are given some benefits because of their refugee status. Immigrants through legal means are NOT able to enjoy the benefits before settlement, that is five year's of economic activity under the present law.

The British media has tried to blur the fact.
If we had true controlled immigration with specific checks in place then this would not need an answer. Anyone wanting to come and live in our country should have to take a full health check , paid for by themselves, in their own country, by British health officials. If they are not well, then they cannot emigrate. They should have to be able to speak and write in English as comprehensibly as an average British student of 16 years old. This would prevent them being a potential burden on our various services who presently have to cater for god knows how many different languages being spoken - i think at the moment it is something like 30 around Leicester - this is not sustainable and also leads to massive problems especially with elderly people who cannot communicate with doctors and nurses when they need treatment and have to rely on the state paying for interpreters. They should also be able to show proof that they have a job to come to and that they will have gainfull employment for a minimum of 2 years - not hard now with the employment laws. After that they should be judged on their merits but their families should not automatically be given the right to come here also. Anyone who takes a treachorous view against this country should be deported immediately with all their dependants and never, ever be allowed back. Genuine assylum seekers are different and will work and learn. I am not racist and i believe that we should only treat fairly those who do the same towards us. We have been far too tolerant for too long now and look where that has got us.
