There is no such difference between a fresh one and renewal of Passport. In fact it depends on the laws of the country in which you are residing. All the formalities for new one and renewal are same but if you go for renewal then the old one is required to be surrendered and the issuing office takes a liberal view. Generally renewal requires to be done within 30 days and thereafter also it can be done but it expires automatically.

not sure what you mean by renovate-add new curtains? generally you can renew a passport 6 months before expiration.
u can not renovate it but i think u meant reneval of passport u can do i before hand for about 6months there are few formalities for that to get a new one,
they will ask for the address proof in case u have changed the residence and u will need to go to any of the police station for the fulrther enquiry regerding it before getting an passport and it wil be given for almost 10 years validity.
You can not renovate your passport. It is offence.Only GOI can do this. This is a case of re-issue. I got passport on 10 03 1998, valid upto 09 03 2008. I can apply for re-issue any time after 09 03 2007.
