I have a green card without an expiration date. my 5th year old picture is on it. can i go to America with it?
Answer:
If you received your GC at age 14 it has an implied expiration date. It needs to be renewed. just before you turn 21
If you have been out of US for less than 6 months, then you will have no problem reentering
If you have been out of US for more than 6 months, but less than 1 year you may reenter US, but you lose accumulated Residence time if you did not file for Reentry Permit.
If you have been out of US for more than 1yr without a reentry permit your GC is considered to be canceled.
They will know how long you have been out of the country by examining your passport. If you have replaced the passport then there will be questions about residence, school, employment, life in US etc. until Immigration Officer is satisfied you are either telling the truth or that they are sure you are lying.
If you have lived outside of the US for more than 6 months ,you lose the green card...
Or that's what I know.
To have it you should spend at least 6months a year in the country.
OK you are going to lie about your green card now?! trust me they will find out if you are lying. American weren't born yesterday. best advice for you is to stay in your country.
With the situation what it is,I wouldn't risk it.
How can you say you have been living her currently, if you are coming in from our of the country they can see from your passport records where you have been! You may have problems if you have not been in the States in the last 12 months.
