USA National Anthem in Spanish?

NPR is reporting that there is a Spanish language version of the Star Spangled Banner. Since when is any country's national anthem translated into anything other than it's native tongue? Immigration is one thing. Cultural take-over is entirely different.

Answer:
It's disgusting. And I can bet that even though it is translated THEY won't sing it anyway. I am so sick of having to accomodate for people who are here illegally. If I moved to France (which would NEVER happen), I would have to learn French.

English is the language of the United States of America. Learn it!
This is a travesty and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We consider this treason and anti-USA!
Aren't they sad, they want to abandon Mexico because they can't live happily there, but they want to change our country into Mexico. ?? I don't get the intelligence there.
I don't care what language it is sung in, just as long as there allegiance to this country is genuine.
How is this cultural takeover? The U.S. has many different cultures. Stop with this nativism.
Actually, the US anthem has been translated for 50 years or so into Spanish and other languages so they could appreciate the lyrics while learning our language.

What I don't like is that version that British guy came out with last year that not only translated it into Spanish but turned it into doggeral with lyrics about our 'mean' immigration laws. THAT pisses me off. It has to do with respect.
WOW, that was news, about 6 months ago.
It's been around for a while and there isn't any law against translating a group of words into another language.

As long as we are not forced to start singing it in Spanish, German or Arabic then what does it really matter?
I think the majority has always been English speaking, but I don't think the US has an offical language. Or, I could be wrong.
First of all this isn't news, they did that over a year ago, and it tanked so poorly that NPR apparently felt justified to dredge up that muck against and put some lipstick on the pig to make it seem like a recent thing.
Secondly, the intent behind the song was to pay homage to the song and it did poorly which is why no one hears it anymore.

Not much a cultural takeover, if you ask me.
Just a little NPR fuel to add to the fire.
Yea, I heard it and it's insulting. Not only did they change the words but they changed the meaning!

English may not be our "official" language but it is the national language. Always has been and always will be.
This is old news,if they can't sing it in English why shouldn't they be allowed to pledge their allegiance to the country they love? Why should any person be denied the right to be patriotic just because they don't know the English language well enough yet?You want them to just recite the English version mechanically like I am every day at the hell hole of a school that I go to until one day they think "Wow! look at what a wonderful school the American gov. has given me!!!"
I know...F****ng shame of life here. And get this, the first lady LOVES it. Can you believe it?? I wonder if the wetbacks have a spanish version of "Run to the hills" by Iron Maiden. They should become aware of that song's meaning, since it's coming their way real soon, and so very true to life as they can imagine...
No way, the national anthem of this and any other country should not be translated to any other language. As a new citizen of the U.S., I am with you 100%. My primary language is spanish but I do not appreciate listening to our anthem in spanish.

IS JUST NOT RIGHT!
We have the pledge of alleigance in my tiny town in Wisconsin, IN SPANISH, thank God they took it off but now we dont have it at all, which is sad. mexicans want to be treated differently than everyone else, that is obvious.
English is not the official language, we don't have one here. As far as the national anthem goes, this country was built on many different languages...ever hear of Ellis Island?? If not, go visit it and check out our history.
Isn't it better that someone that speaks another language have allegiance to the country and be able to sing with pride and understanding about their allegiance rather than say phonetically a bunch of meaningless sounds??
I think people need to get their priorities straight and do some historical research while they are at it!
Translate the Mexico National Anthem into English.
Mexicans, at the cry of war,
prepare the steel and the steed,
and may the earth shake at its core
to the resounding roar of the cannon.
Gird, oh country, your brow with olive
the divine archangel of peace,
for your eternal destiny was written
in the heavens by the hand of God.
But if some strange enemy should dare
to profane your ground with his step,
think, oh beloved country, that heaven
has given you a soldier in every son.
War, war without truce to any who dare
to tarnish the country's coat-of-arms!
War, war! Take the national pennants
and soak them in waves of blood.
War, war! In the mountain, in the valley,
the cannons thunder in horrid unison
and the resonant echoes
cry out Union,
Liberty!
Oh country, 'ere your children
defenseless bend their neck to the yoke,
May your fields be watered with blood,
may they trod upon blood.
And may your temples, palaces and towers
collapse with horrid clamor,
and their ruins live on to say:
This land belonged to a thousand heroes.
Oh, country, country, your children swear
to breathe their last in your honor,
if the trumpet with warlike accent
should call them to fight with courage.
For you the olive branches!
A reminder for them of glory!
A laurel of victory for you!
For them a tomb with honor!
Mexicans, at the cry of war,
prepare the steel and the steed,
and may the earth shake at its core
to the resounding roar of the cannon.

Now, the Star-Spangled Banner
O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen thro’ the mist of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream
’Tis the star-spangled banner. Oh! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation,
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our Trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

They don't understand the meaning of our anthem.
Theirs is a call to war.
Ours is a tribute to the war that freed us from tyranny but is more a tribute to continuing freedom.

It is ridiculous to allow them to dishonor our values and heritage.
you are kind of late. that is an VERY OLD debate.

and also, when hispanics show they want to be part of this country by translating this in Spanish, you start bashing them.

and I don't know what this has to do with Immigration..
It isn't right. If someone went to Mexico and did that, the person who translated Mexico's national anthem would be shot on the spot, no questions asked. If they wanted to be apart of this country and appreciate the national anthem, they could learn English and learn to appreciate the national anthem in its native language.. ENGLISH.
THAT IS A DISGRACE AND SHOULD BE MADE ILLEGAL!
