Did you see the result of the Hazelton mayorial vote?

"WASHINGTON, May 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Mayor Lou Barletta took the bold step of implementing local ordinances to curb illegal immigration in his city, he was widely described as "controversial." Barletta's strong stance against illegal immigration was so "controversial," in fact, that the two-term Republican not only won yesterday's Republican primary with 94.4 percent of the vote, but he won the Democratic nomination through a write-in campaign by nearly a 2-1 margin. Given the opportunity to express their views on Barletta's battle against illegal immigration, Hazleton residents did not so much as elect him to a third term, but virtually anointed him their mayor for the next four years."

What do you think of that?

Answer:
I would vote for ANYONE who actually said that they were going to uphold the EXISTING immigration laws and try to do something to correct the lawlessness that is occurring today with the illegal alien problems.

I would NOT look at a parties affiliation to decide...if they would do something, they have MY vote!
thats just 45 minutes north of me... its about time people start following the immigration laws
Its all over my local news here (I'm in E. PA)... I think that speaks VERY loudly for how people feel, what the sentiment is around here. I'm sure that set some sort of precedence - I haven't had a chance to glean through my PA history books...

And some people think I'm crazy when I post an answer saying how everyone in my area - of all cultures and races - is sticking together on this issue... this vote exemplifies it well.

Edit: truckjumper - hello neighbor!... I'm 1 hour South. We must be within 15 miles of each other... I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
DID YOU HEAR HE WON THE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR HIS REELECTION?
I think it's great. It probably pisses off the ACLU which makes it even better.
Finally a politician who is following the will of the people and surprise, surprise he garnished 94.4% of the vote.
I'm moving to Hazelton.
I think once American citizens take a stand on June 16th, the politicians that don't already know will shift gears. We have to get out there & let our government hear what we have to say about illegal aliens (we don't want them here)!!! After our march against illegal immigration, we will see the same results as Hazelton! Believe that!!!

No amnesty!!! Deport all illegal aliens!
YES!!! I think this is AWESOME!!! 94.4 % is fricken fantastic!!
I think Washington needs to be paying attention is what i think.
Hooray for Mayor Barletta! If only the President and Congress had the same views as him.
Why is this even remotely news worthy or shocking? I dont find it surprising at all that a majorly white town in the middle of nowhere PA is scared of their hispanic minority and elected their super anti-immigration mayor as king, although the articles doesnt actually mention the mayors viewpoints.. Hell, the population of Hazelton is only 23,000 people, when this happens in a city with a population over 500K let me know.

I'm pretty sure there are tons of local towns who have attempted to enforce immigration laws locally (I cant recall any who have done it effectively). But quite frankly it is not the job of the local government to do so. Its the federal governments job.
