Bush thought the compromise legislation was going to pass both houses. Just a couple of weeks ago he told some reporters "see you at the signing." Bush has many faults, but I wouldn't call him delusional

Amnesty succeeded in '86, and it came much closer to success yesterday than you may realize. Though a number of Senators changed thier votes when they saw that cloture couldn't succeed, the margin was actually very slim.
I say the American people were heard and won this issue. Now it's time for the deportations to begin.

You really can't change their minds with speech, because they refuse to believe the truth. They will only see the light when the borders are secure and current immigration laws are being enforced.

Funny thing! Back in the early days of our country people from all over the world flocked to our fair land seeking a new home because they had been persecuted in their country of orgin. Now we put limits on people today because they wish a new home. Be kind and give them a place they can call their own. Is it so different than when we were such a young nation? Anyone and everyone immigrated to the USA! I say let the ones that are here in and then follow existing laws to monitor people wanting to move to a foreign land!

To the delusional I would say that there are many countries you can move to .The people have spoken loud and clear and anyone who keeps up the pro illegal stance has just wrecked their career. People don`t mind legals who integrate into society and strive to become a part of the nation, those that give us the finger and burn our flags and then demand services that they have not paid for can kiss our American land goodbye as it is not theirs to take and abuse.

If you grant amnesty to the criminal illegals , you have to grant it to all criminals.. It would lead to a mess in the court system.. People in prisons all over the country would start filing suite left and right .Of course we've only put off the inevitable. first, your figure of 80% is made up and totally arbitrary--ruins your credibility--and thus exposes your emotional bias. also, as has been explained to those willing to listen for longer than a sound byte--this was not an amnesty bill. it was referred to as such to arouse the anger of a conservative population that wished to hide from its own xenophobia.
the bill has been worked on, twice now, and rejected. it will be resurrected if a democrat is elected to the white house, or a thinking consevative is elected to the white house.
