I want to move to England from the US, how hard is this transition?
What are the stepping blocks in order to make this happen? What do I need? Where can I get information?

Be very careful following Michael Moore's rhetoric. Good and bad stories can be found in lots of countries all over the world.
Having lived in the UK, I can honestly say it definately doesn't have the holy grail of health care systems, it has a lot of faults. The waiting lists in particular can be terrible and even to see a preferred GP can take up to a week.
You mentioned that you like Englands way of living, how much time have you spent in the UK? It is really important to understand that this is a massive decision and grass is not always greener. Before I emigrated I spent as much time as possible talking to people out here, understanding the pros and more importantly the cons.
Your first stop should be the Foreign Office to look at the visa requirements. However if you are serious it is better to pay a specialist lawyer to handle your case. I think this costs around 2000 pounds. Generally they will only grant you a visa if you are a student or you have a particular qualification earning a certain level. For my friend that was over 35,000p/a. The easiest way is to try and get an internal transfer via your company and let them worry about the paperwork.
I have no regrets about moving but you have to be very careful

The health care in this country has been on a downward spiral for years. The waiting lists are longer than ever and less and less of the treatment is free nowadays.
England is the last place on Earth anyone should move to right now. In fact, most English people want to leave.

Roo is right. Apart from the health issues there is also the fact that by having mass immigration from Europe foisted upon us the character of England has been destroyed. What you admired in your youth is all gone, the government now only dictated to the people having only been elected by 10% of the population, don't expect any help as most people are totally involved with their own lives, and will not stop to help a woman as most men now fear being accused of attemped rape or such like. No if I were you I would go to Canada.

our health care is well uncaring our hospitals in a downward spiral. our benefits system is as messed up as the weather and we are on alert from terrorist attacks. the green and pleasant land is over populated and getting worse and dont get me started on the housing shortages
If the only reason you are considering the move to England is because of our Health Service, forget it. wrong reason for moving. Unless you feel you can contribute to England in some way, you would be just like a majority of immigrants who come here to take what they can from us while giving nothing.

The grass always seems greener from the other side. You can't run away from problems, they follow you around wherever you go. You sho uld just go for a visit somewhere before you make abig move anywhere.

Ive just come back from US, and i have to say i would rather be there than here, But in answer to your question..... Cant see what the problem is as our goverment love to let anyone into our country especially Terroists,
If all else falls you can marry someone from England then you can live here.
Cant see what peoples problems are having yanks living here, Id rather have more of them than these bloody Muslims that are intent on causing mass destruction to our Country.
I mean even our Doctors who are meant to SAVE life are having a go at blowing us up.

Why on earth would you want to leave the US for this place. England is going down hill fast. The more you earn the more the Govt take from you. They allow big companies to raise their prices above inflation and keep pay rises and pensions below inflation, they even allow some big companies to pay NO TAX at all.Your health system is not a fair one but ours is being allowed to waste away. When I retired I wanted to emigrate to Florida but the health cost made it prohibitive. If you were unlucky to have been born in the UK you are now treated as a second class citizen, people from the rest of the world get treated 1st and better than us. STAY WHERE YOU ARE
If im gonna give you an advice i will say take a trip down to present dat UK. Maybe for a month and actually see how life is here. But honestly, i'll suggest you try Canada or maybe move round US. Common' US is so big that you can just move to another state.
But dont make a hasty decision which you might end up regretting.
