Do you believe the US should send Mexico a bill for the cost of the border fence to keep out their citizens?

Answer:
Nope. I think we should take another approach.

I believe we should cut off every incentive Mexicans have to come here illegally - no jobs, no welfare, and close the loophole that makes anchor babies American citizens. No education, medical care, dental care, etc. unless you can prove you are here legally.

Then we should try to help Mexico find ways to keep Mexicans in their country. Figure out why they're coming here and help them to develop systems and programs that will help them take better care of their citizens.

The problem, of course, is that US companies can make much bigger profits by employing illegals so it's unlikely they'll stop on their own. The government needs to impose huge fines so it's simply not worth it. However, the government gets a lot of tax revenue from these companies. It becomes a catch 22 in which the middle class pays and gets dragged down while people on the other ends (the rich and the poor) both get richer.

The other problem is that we're not exactly getting the cream of the crop from Mexico. It's not like doctors and dentists and IT wizards are flowing over the border, you know? And Mexico doesn't really have a desire to keep these particular people in their country, so there's no motivation on their end.

Until we get people in the government who recognize the problem and are willing to do something about it, the middle class will keep paying.

All I can say is, "Vote Tancredo!"
hell yea don't forget the education bill and health care bill too that their citizens use up in USA and sent billions home each year!!
Yeah, then Mexico can send you a bill for the drug violence caused by your illegal drug cravings.
lol a fence? you could build a fence all you want, we humans have invented something called tunnels and I think they know how to use them. So no a fence is a waste of money and time. It will not make a difference at all. Go ahead and blow the money on it and just watch the numbers stay the same.
Yes, and why have we not done just that,,,?
Interesting question? Lets Say i had neighbors living behind me, and they kept coming on to my property?
i Would install a fence, but would not expect them to pay for it!
Absolutely not - the decision to put up this fence is that of the US - therefore any and all costs incurred by this must be that of the US.

The price of protecting one's border is that country's responsability and no one else's.
Wow, nice question.
America's idea, Americans financial responsibility.
If we are building it, it has nothing to do with them. We are the ones trying to keep them out.
No - it wasn' their bad idea to put up a fence. In my opinion this is just a waste of money unless we add enough border guards or national guard to constantly patrol the fence.

This kind of idea did not work for East Germany and Russia during the Cold War with the Berlin Wall and the fences between East and Wet Germany and I do not believe it will work for us.
Yes and put the National guard ,The army the Marines Air force there remove them from all parts of the world and put them there.we need tanks heavy armor ,machine guns, ray guns.We should parachut them useing old stuff back to panama where they came from or cuba.
Good luck getting that bill paid
Got that right!
Yes i do!!!! And, for the BILLIONS of dollars the illegals cost us in other ways too!!! Such as unpaid medical bills, incarceration of their criminals, afdc checks, food stamps, wic, free school lunches, etc, etc!!!!
for the person that posted before were did you actually get all of this information very intresting!!! you know i volunteer for my local catholic charity its an immigration office and you know that we were very surprised that illigal immigrants dont get those benefits because they dont have a social security and so on so on but then again i dont know how all that proccess goes because my parents and i are against all those things and most of the immigrants i know feel the sameway and if the illegal immigrants are smart enough to fool social workers and state personel well more power to them they do that without knowing english wow!! not as dumb as you think then!!!! oh yeah and for the "criminals" that we immigrants have well know that once they get caught doing something "illegal" then they get deported!!!
Do you think Mexico should charge the US for the money not paid according to the federal minimum, for the hours that thousand of Mexicans had worked on US strawberry, orange, grape, apple fields, or those who work in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami Beach housecleaning, restaurants, construction?... Hmmm... guess USA would end up owning more to Mexico
Forget it! There is not going to be a fence...that was just more "feel good" rhetoric spoon fed to the gullible before the elections.... Anyone who really believes that 1) a fence will actually be built and; 2) a fence would really stop "illegal" immigration doesn't have much between the ears.

As for the "health costs" quoted by another poster...do some surfing and you will see that 43 million Americans have no health insurance - none -... that's what is driving the cost of our medical care through the roof.

Of course, this could be remedied by a comprehensive and affordable national health care insurance but that is not a priority in Washington.
