Im on a student visa in houston, but before I got my visa I got a State ID, it has no effect on any status or such.
its simply for id purposes
i live in NJ so i dont know about Houston but here when you got to DMV, they check your immigration status, and if you are illegal, they report you right away, but if you are changing status with proper documentes. you'll be fine
you know my husband was thinking of that, we don't know for sure. but if you think about it (common sense) if you were to do this, they would right away bring it to your attention that you got documents that you knew you were not supposed to. i do think that will come and bite you back, and either not get your papers, or slow the process
